Purpose
To protect human health and the enviroment from potential impact of exposure to chemical substances used as biocides.
Scope
Applies to biocidal products and treated articles, focusing on the market availability and use of these products.
Key requirements
Biocidal products must be authorised before market placement, ensuring safety and effectiveness; specific provisions for labeling and packaging.
Penalties
Each Member State has sanctions for non-compliance that are effective, proportionate, and dissuasive.
EXEMPTIONS
Some exemtions apply for certain exemptions for products used in the public supply of drinking water and specific cases for defense interests.
