The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has opened a public consultation for the harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) of several chemical substances. This initiative is a crucial step in aligning with the European Union's commitment to safeguarding public health and the environment.
Among the substances under review are ethylene bis[3,3-bis(3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)butyrate] (EC 251-073-2, CAS 32509-66-3), tebuconazole (ISO); 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-3-(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)pentan-3-ol (EC 403-640-2, CAS 107534-96-3), and methyl isothiocyanate (EC 209-132-5, CAS 556-61-6). Methyl isothiocyanate, notably, has applications under the REACH Regulation and is a metabolite in active substances such as metam-sodium (ISO) and metam-potassium (ISO).
The consultation also includes metam-sodium (ISO); sodium methyldithiocarbamate [1]; and metam-potassium (ISO); potassium methyldithiocarbamate [2] (EC 205-293-0 [1]; 205-292-5 [2], CAS 137-42-8 [1]; 137-41-7 [2]). These substances are being evaluated for both their roles in plant protection products and their potential classification under the CLP Regulation.
This comprehensive proposal format merges the draft (renewal) assessment report as per the Plant Protection Products Regulation with the proposal for CLH under the CLP Regulation. Stakeholders are encouraged to review the Commission’s Guidelines on Active Substances and Plant Protection Products for detailed insights.
New proposals for harmonisation
Additionally, new intentions and proposals for harmonisation have been announced. These include 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-p-cresol (EC 219-470-5, CAS 2440-22-4), along with two proposals for 8-methyldecan-2-yl propionate (EC -, CAS 81931-28-4) and beflubutamid (ISO); N-benzyl-2-[4-fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]butanamide (EC 601-267-1, CAS 113614-08-7).
The ECHA invites public comments on these proposals until 19 January 2024. This consultation presents a vital opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the regulatory process, ensuring that chemical substances are classified and labelled in a manner that reflects their potential risks.
For those seeking assistance in understanding these regulations and ensuring compliance, Foresight’s solutions offer expert guidance and support. With a deep understanding of chemical legislation, Foresight helps stakeholders navigate these complex requirements, ensuring both compliance and the mitigation of potential risks associated with chemical substances.
For more information on the active substances and the studies included in the CLH report, stakeholders are advised to consult the draft assessment report available on the European Food Safety Authority's consultation website. Your participation and feedback are invaluable in shaping a safer and more sustainable chemical industry.
